Caribbean fashion designer Dr. Sonia Noel has been named Global Fashion Leader and Entrepreneur of the Year 2026 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP), recognising her contributions to fashion, entrepreneurship and community development.
Noel will receive the honour at IAOTP’s annual awards gala at the Plaza Hotel in New York City in December 2026.
Based in Georgetown, Guyana, Noel has spent three decades building a career that extends beyond fashion design. She is the founder of Guyana Fashion Week, the Women in Business Expo, the Sonia Noel Foundation and the Women’s Association for Sustainable Development, platforms that promote creative enterprise, women’s leadership and social empowerment.
Her work combines fashion with mentorship and entrepreneurship. Through her Confidence Becomes You empowerment programme and Beyond the Runway column, Noel promotes personal development and encourages women and emerging entrepreneurs to pursue opportunities in business and creative industries.
Her international career has taken Caribbean fashion to Africa, Europe, Asia and the Americas. She led the first Caribbean delegation of designers to an international fashion fair in Ningbo, China, exhibited at a trade fair in India at the government’s invitation and represented the Caribbean at the Caribbean Export Showcase in London during the 2012 Olympic Games. Her designs have also appeared at the Grammy and Emmy awards.
Beyond the runway, Noel leads philanthropic initiatives through the Sonia Noel Foundation, including the Breadbasket Initiative, which supports people facing difficult circumstances. She also works to create opportunities for women and underserved communities through mentoring, business platforms and humanitarian programmes.
Noel, a John Maxwell-trained coach, international speaker and author of 11 Amazon bestselling books, received an honorary doctorate from Global Oved Dei Seminary and University in recognition of her service and contributions.
IAOTP President Stephanie Cirami described Noel as an inspirational and influential leader, saying the organisation looked forward to celebrating her accomplishments at its annual gala.
The 2026 recognition adds to Noel’s international profile as she continues to expand her fashion and empowerment platforms. Her career reflects a broader role for Caribbean fashion in connecting design, cultural representation, entrepreneurship and social impact.
