VARANASI, India, October 25, 2026 -Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated Arvind Limited’s garment manufacturing facility in Varanasi, the Gujarat-based group’s first manufacturing unit in Uttar Pradesh. The event was positioned as a push to build scale in India’s apparel exports as global brands diversify their sourcing. Arvind said it is grateful for the support of the Government of India and the Uttar Pradesh government as it seeks to “weave Kashi’s legacy into the future.”

The facility is part of Arvind’s wider expansion strategy and global supply-chain ambitions. For buyers weighing alternatives to existing sourcing hubs, it adds garmenting capacity inside India’s integrated textile base. It also positions Varanasi and Uttar Pradesh as emerging centres for garment manufacturing, skilled employment and women’s participation in the workforce.
Punit Lalbhai, Vice Chairman, Arvind Ltd, framed the plant as a response to a shifting global market. He said India has an opportunity to strengthen its position in global apparel manufacturing, and that as brands diversify sourcing, “building scale in garmenting” will be key to turning India’s textile strengths into greater export competitiveness.
Kulin Lalbhai, Vice Chairman, Arvind Ltd, tied the project to the state’s wider industrial push. He said Uttar Pradesh is creating new manufacturing opportunities through investment in infrastructure, connectivity and skills, bringing the Prime Minister’s vision of the state’s industrial transformation to life. In his view, these developments can help the state attract long-term industrial investment and build a stronger manufacturing ecosystem.
He added that India’s textile and apparel sector can play a larger role in global manufacturing. Uttar Pradesh, he said, has the potential to contribute meaningfully to that growth, and he looks forward to seeing the opportunities the facility creates for Varanasi and its surrounding communities.
