NEW YORK — Cotton producer Avalo is partnering with denim innovators Labor Made Inc., Neela by Sapphire Fibres, Soko and the LYCRA® brand to launch “Naturalls,” a capsule collection highlighting lower-input cotton and innovations across the denim supply chain.
Designed by Gordon Muir of Labor Made Inc., the collection is positioned as a tribute to cotton farmers and the role of agricultural innovation in making denim more sustainable.
Avalo said Naturalls uses its Low-Input Cotton, which the company claims requires 100% less water and 75% less fertilizer than conventionally grown cotton and generates half the emissions.
The collection brings together technologies from several stages of production. Neela by Sapphire Fibres developed the spinning, weaving and garment-making processes, while Soko applied two proprietary technologies for low-water colour treatment.
The LYCRA® brand contributed Renewable LYCRA® fiber, containing 70% renewable content, to provide the stretch, fit and comfort associated with contemporary denim.
Innovation across the supply chain
Avalo said Naturalls is intended to demonstrate how collaboration across agriculture, fibre, textile and garment production can address sustainability challenges in the textile industry.
The collection will be unveiled during NYC Climate Week at the Explorers Club, bringing together technologies spanning the supply chain from cotton cultivation to finished denim.
The initiative reflects growing efforts within the Textile, Clothing and Footwear industry to reduce the environmental footprint of denim, particularly through lower-resource cotton cultivation, reduced-water processing and alternative fibre inputs.
