TCF POST REPORT
LONDON – The R|Elan™ Circular Design Challenge (CDC) has officially launched its eighth global edition, marking a significant partnership under the India–France Year of Innovation 2026.
This year, the initiative is collaborating with the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM), the governing body for the French fashion industry, to elevate the discourse on circularity.
The CDC, originally launched by Reliance Industries Limited in partnership with the United Nations in India, stands as India’s largest award for circular fashion. It is designed to empower emerging designers and entrepreneurs who prioritize circular principles and treat waste as a valuable resource.
Global Reach and Jury Schedule
The 2026 edition has seen robust international engagement, receiving over 220 applications. From this pool, 23 semi-finalists have been selected for regional jury rounds. The judging process has begun in Paris and will continue globally:
- Paris: 5 July
- United Kingdom: 9 July
- APAC: 24 July
- India: 28 July
The Road to the Grand Finale
Following the regional rounds, the finalists will enter an intensive mentorship program to refine their concepts. The journey will culminate in a presentation to the Grand Jury at the United Nations Headquarters in New Delhi.
The eighth edition will conclude with a high-profile showcase at the French Embassy during Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI, where the winners will be announced before an audience of industry leaders, media, and sustainability advocates.
Fostering Sustainable Innovation
“The Challenge equips emerging talent with the platform, mentorship, and material innovation needed to transform circular ideas into commercially viable solutions,” said Mr. Hemant D. Sharma of Reliance Industries.
Mr. Stefan Priesner, UN Resident Coordinator, highlighted India’s potential to lead the global transition toward circular fashion. At the same time, FHCM representatives emphasized the importance of international collaboration in nurturing the next generation of fashion entrepreneurs.
Through such a multi-stakeholder alliance, the R|Elan™ CDC continues to solidify its role in fostering a global ecosystem where creative excellence meets sustainable, circular innovation.
