Under Armour and Sharpie Unveil Strategic “D. Fox x Sharpie” Collection

TCF POST Report

ATLANTA — Under Armour (NYSE: UAA) and Sharpie, a Newell Brands (NASDAQ: NWL) company, have officially unveiled the D. Fox x Sharpie Capsule Collection, a performance-driven collaboration that highlights the intersection of elite athletics, personal branding, and consumer creativity.

Headlined by the Fox 2 x Sharpie basketball shoe, the collection launches exclusively at UnderArmour.com on July 23, 2026.

Strategic Market Positioning

This partnership serves as a key pillar in Under Armour’s ongoing fiscal strategy to elevate its footwear category, which currently represents approximately 25% of total sales. By positioning the Fox 2 x Sharpie shoe at a $130 retail price point, Under Armour is aggressively targeting the high-volume, mid-range segment of the basketball footwear market.

“Great performance starts with preparation, confidence, and the freedom to express yourself,” said Yuron White, SVP and General Manager of Sportswear and Collabs at Under Armour. “This collection celebrates those qualities through De’Aaron’s story, capturing the creativity that’s often part of an athlete’s journey long before the spotlight”.

Commercializing Authenticity

The collaboration is a calculated effort to leverage “athlete-as-platform” storytelling to drive direct-to-consumer (DTC) engagement—a vital component of Under Armour’s goal to increase margins and strengthen its brand presence.

  • The Narrative-Driven Model: The collection reimagines the early, formative years of NBA athlete De’Aaron Fox, transforming hand-drawn sketches from his youth notebooks into final footwear and apparel designs.
  • Integrated Branding: Beyond the footwear, the capsule includes t-shirts, hoodies, and shorts for adults and youth. The design language features “Swipa”—Fox’s well-known nickname—alongside personal symbols honoring his children, effectively blending consumer-facing lifestyle trends with high-performance utility.
  • Phased Market Engagement: Following this July launch, Under Armour and Sharpie will debut a second capsule this fall, expanding into additional accessories. This phased approach is designed to maintain market visibility and generate recurring demand.

A Focus on Digital Growth

The exclusive release of the collection through Under Armour’s digital storefront is a strategic move to optimize its DTC channel,
