TCF POST Report

TORONTO — Canada Goose Holdings Inc. has agreed to sell Canadian performance footwear brand Baffin Limited to L.P. Royer Inc., marking a strategic portfolio reshuffle aimed at sharpening its focus on the Canada Goose brand and supporting its long-term lifestyle growth strategy.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The deal is expected to close in August, subject to customary closing conditions.

The divestment reflects Canada Goose’s continued efforts to streamline operations while concentrating investment on its core brand across apparel, outerwear, footwear and accessories.

Baffin became part of Canada Goose in 2018 as the company’s first acquisition in the footwear category. The purchase provided manufacturing expertise, technical footwear knowledge and operational infrastructure that helped Canada Goose establish its own footwear business as it diversified beyond luxury outerwear.

Since launching its first proprietary footwear collection in 2021, Canada Goose has expanded its offering from extreme-weather boots into lightweight hiking footwear, everyday performance styles and sneakers, positioning footwear as a strategic pillar in its evolution into a year-round lifestyle brand.

“This transaction is about focus,” said Dani Reiss, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Canada Goose. He said the sale would simplify the company’s operating model, allow greater concentration of resources on priority growth opportunities and support long-term profitable expansion. Reiss also credited Baffin’s management team for strengthening the brand during its ownership.

For the footwear industry, the transaction signals that Canada Goose now believes it has built sufficient in-house footwear capabilities and no longer requires ownership of a separate technical footwear business to support category development. Instead, the company intends to channel investment directly into the Canada Goose footwear portfolio while maintaining its broader lifestyle expansion strategy.

For Royer, the acquisition broadens its presence in technical footwear by adding a well-established consumer performance brand to its portfolio. Founded in 1934 and headquartered in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Royer manufactures work and military footwear serving industries including mining, oil and gas, construction, metallurgy and heavy manufacturing.

Simon La Rochelle, President of Royer, described Baffin as a respected Canadian technical footwear brand with strong product expertise and said the company intends to preserve its heritage while supporting future growth.

Founded in 1979, Baffin has built its reputation on durable, high-performance footwear designed for extreme environments. The brand is recognized for its Canadian heritage, technical innovation and cold-weather expertise.

The transaction also highlights ongoing portfolio optimization within the apparel and footwear industry, where brands are increasingly refining business structures to focus capital on core consumer propositions while placing specialized businesses with owners better aligned to their long-term development.

Once completed, the sale will enable Canada Goose to further simplify its operating model while reinforcing investment behind its namesake brand across product categories, seasons and international markets, as Royer assumes responsibility for expanding Baffin’s next phase of growth.
