Program to Upskill Workers and Mid-Level Executives Restarts

TCF POST Desk

Dhaka — June 25, 2026: The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) has reinitiated an upskilling program to bolster competitiveness in Bangladesh’s garment export sector. The bureau, under the Ministry of Commerce, signed separate agreements today with top apparel trade bodies and a leading university to arrange training for a total of 22,815 workers and mid-level factory executives over three consecutive fiscal years.

The EPB signed the agreements with the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), and the BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) to implement the upskilling program.

Dual-Track Training Framework

Fully funded by the Ministry of Commerce’s dedicated training fund, the initiative is structured into two distinct operational tracks to address performance gaps at both the shop-floor and managerial levels:

  • For Production Workers: BGMEA and BKMEA will manage intensive 5-day training modules aimed at enhancing efficiency and technical prowess.
  • For Mid-Level Officers: The BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology (BUFT) will run 6-month Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) courses to breed next-generation managers for the industry.

The program moves beyond basic vocational training to target high-value industry pain points, including Productivity and Innovation, Compliance and Rules of Origin, and Financial Efficiency.

Mr. Mahmud Hasan Khan, President of BGMEA; Mr. Fazlee Shamim Ehsan, Executive President of BKMEA; Prof. Dr. Ayub Nabi Khan, Vice Chancellor of BUFT; and Mr. Md. Ruhul Amin, Director General and CMC Chief of the EPB, spoke at the agreement signing ceremony. The event was held at the EPB conference room in the city at 3:00 PM and was chaired by the Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of the EPB, Mr. Md. Hasan Arif.
