When the first cheers erupted across the venues of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games on July 23, a quiet yet powerful transformation stepped onto the global stage alongside Team Sri Lanka.
They weren’t just wearing uniforms; they were wearing armor forged from identity, resilience, and cutting-edge science.
Developed in close partnership with the Commonwealth Games Association of Sri Lanka (CGA Sri Lanka), the national contingent’s performance kits are the handiwork of MAS Holdings—Sri Lanka’s apparel giant that continues to redefine what it means for local athletes to look, feel, and perform like world-beaters.
Apparel Engineering Meets Heritage
Behind every seam, fabric blend, and moisture-wicking panel lies a meticulous engineering process. The national contingent of 42 athletes spans a diverse array of disciplines—from Athletics and Para Athletics to Boxing, Gymnastics, Swimming, Weightlifting, and Judo.
Because a weightlifter’s structural needs differ vastly from a swimmer’s hydrodynamic requirements or a boxer’s agility demands, MAS’s design and innovation teams went to the drawing board. They crafted discipline-specific kits tailored for optimal movement, fit, and thermal comfort, all while anchoring every athlete in a unified national aesthetic.
Yet, what elevates these kits beyond standard sportswear is the soul stitched into them.
This year’s collection tells a deeper story under the theme “Sacred Giants of Sri Lanka.” Drawing inspiration from the Sri Lankan elephant—an enduring symbol of strength, dignity, and quiet power in the country’s heritage—the design serves as a living metaphor for the island’s athletes.
The Unseen Battle
For many Sri Lankan competitors, the hardest part of the journey isn’t just the final race or the ultimate bout; it’s getting to the starting line.
Navigating limited resources, towering expectations, and countless unseen hurdles, these athletes carry the weight of a nation on their shoulders. The “Sacred Giants” motif is a deliberate reverence to that grit. It honors the unwavering discipline required to push past adversity and step into an international arena with head held high.
Arosh Fernando, Director of Product Innovation at MAS, looks at the partnership not just as a manufacturing feat, but as a point of national pride.
“We are proud to support Team Sri Lanka through our partnership with the NOC for the Commonwealth Games this year,” Fernando shares. “The kits are made to meet the performance demands of each sport while reflecting a shared Sri Lankan identity. The design is inspired by the strength and resilience of the elephant, which offers a meaningful reference for our national team representing the country on an international stage.”
Pushing Boundaries on the World Stage
As the competition heats up in Glasgow, Team Sri Lanka is proving that resource constraints do not dictate potential. Backed by world-class apparel innovation, the nation’s athletes are equipped to compete fearlessly against the globe’s best.
For MAS Holdings, this milestone is part of a much larger legacy—one of continually lending its global-standard expertise to uplift local sports. As the Glasgow Games unfold, every stride, lift, and punch delivered by Team Sri Lanka carries a piece of home: a reminder of the giants walking among us, clad in strength and engineered for greatness.
Founded in 1987, MAS Holdings began as an underwear manufacturer and later diversified into sportswear, performance wear, and swimwear. With over 50 manufacturing facilities across 17 countries and a workforce of more than 100,000 people, the company generates an annual turnover of over USD 2 billion. Additionally, MAS maintains design and development hubs in New York, London, Hong Kong, and Colombo.
