Zellerfeld Unveils Major Platform Update to Digitize the Footwear Industry

AUSTIN, Texas — Zellerfeld has officially launched a comprehensive platform update to modernize how consumers discover, fit, and acquire 3D-printed footwear.

Operating production facilities in Austin, Texas, and Hamburg, Germany, Zellerfeld utilizes automated 3D-printing infrastructure to manufacture footwear entirely on demand.

The process eliminates conventional manufacturing constraints—including traditional molds, stitching, glue, and assembly lines—turning digital blueprints directly into physical products.

“We always said we wanted to digitize footwear in the same way music and video were digitized, and the last few years were spent building the fulfillment infrastructure to make that possible,” said Cornelius Schmitt, CEO and Co-Founder of Zellerfeld. “Why would you go into a shoe store with 100 designs that all look the same and don’t really fit, when you could come to Zellerfeld for millions of beautiful designs from creators around the world, all made to fit you?”

Looking ahead, Schmitt hinted at potential long-term applications for the underlying production technology beyond footwear, noting future exploration into other apparel and accessory categories.

Days start for Searchable and Dynamic Footwear

For years, the company has collaborated with global brands and independent designers to advance printed footwear technology. The latest platform iteration introduces features designed to move beyond traditional, single-launch retail models:

  • Dynamic Discovery: The platform features personalized search tools and live rankings for creators and products, allowing popular designs to scale based on ongoing user demand rather than limited-release windows.
  • ZellerFIT Technology: Central to the update is ZellerFIT, a system that generates a portable digital Fit Profile from a smartphone foot scan and personal preference inputs. The profile carries across different creators and styles, eliminating traditional sizing estimates at checkout.
  • Subscription Model: Zellerfeld is introducing a scaled subscription service offering users four pairs of on-demand printed shoes per year, providing continuous access to an expanding catalog of creator designs tailored to individual measurements.

Billed by company leadership as the industry’s “Spotify moment,” the update integrates marketplace browsing, product discovery, and on-demand manufacturing into a unified digital experience.
